Mahpara Chikankari

Mahpara in Urdu means a slice of the moon. It was during a visit to Lucknow—my mother’s erstwhile city—that I chanced upon the karigars of the craft of chikankari and was introduced to their world. Also fascinating was the fact that it was an all women industry. The more I looked, the more intriguing seemed this affair with a simple needle and thread and the sheer craftsmanship that went into this centuries old art. And thus began the journey of Mahpara, named in memory of my mother, which continues, each day bringing new promise and hope into the lives of people who sustain their livelihoods through these exquisite pieces of art expressed in fabric.

Mahpara chikankari was established in 2016 and has flourished by leaps and bounds conducting exhibitions across Mumbai and aspiring to do the same all over India.
At Mahpara we realize that the comfort and style of the clothing is of paramount importance and hence we design easy to wear and wash clothing with no artificially hiked up prices.
